I'm with Tips here, they are up there with the Spotted Dog, the Red House, West Ham Park and the Franciscans as being an integral part of Forest Gate history.

Re: Clapton FC
Gav. That was in the 1800s. I can't see how it relates to the team, at all. They got their original name from the Downs hotel, but they were only there for two years and moved out in 1880. First to Leyton, then, in 1888, to Forest Gate. :-)

Re: Clapton FC
And you said about not wanting football clubs politicised and then you reckon the 'far right' are targetting them. I reckon that pretty much amounts to politicising Clapton. Makes me want go every week and make sure I stand with the Dads against a few skinhead w?nkers.

Re: Clapton FC
The last time they played on Hackney Downs was 127 years ago. Maybe the 'far right' whoever they are should target a team with much better credentials for taking them on .... like WHU. Instead of a team with the local support of maybe 1000 with kids and families going to games.

Re: Clapton FC
they started playing on hackney downs, that's why theyre called Clapton FC. Otherwise they'd be called Forest Gate FC

Re: Clapton FC
What's that got to do with Hackney Downs, Gavros? They've been at the Spotted dog ground, in Upton lane, for well over a century.

Bollocks im talking am I?

Everyone knows theyre militant lefties, thats why theyve been targeted by the far right. They chant shit like 'RMT, RMT, RMT'.

Re: Clapton FC
Maybe its because they have a story about Walter Tull one of the first black professional footballers on their site? Maybe you should read a bit more because he was a sergeant in the 1WW and fought at the Battle of the Somme and lost his life leading his men in 1918 just before the war ended. Loony leftys obviously.

Re: Clapton FC
Gavros, you are talking one big pile of bollox. They have been in Upton Lane since 1888. And what on earth is this complete and utter crap about extreme lefty blx?

Re: Clapton FC
Have they got a Clapton Life website where they moan about how West Ham moving to the Olympic Stadium has fucked forever any ambition they had of winning the European Championships?

They should have. Spurs will pay for it.

Re: Clapton FC
I like their history; i live 5 minutes from hackney Downs.

What I dont like is the politicisation of their football club.

that's for wanky Italian clubs, not for football in this country.

Re: Clapton FC
Clapton FC my second team. Been there many times at the Spotted Dog, pro celebrity and ex player charity matches and took my kids there as a prelude to Upton Park. Good luck to them.

Re: Clapton FC
Clapton had nothing to do with Clapton Orient (later Leyton Orient) They existed as Clapton FC, from the 1870s, some 20 years before Clapton Orient.
No connection at all, between the two. Clapton started as Downs FC, but chsnged their name a year later and have been Clapton, since then.

What Clapton Orient? The original Clapton Club?

Should have stayed there, now we are going to bankrupt them, apparently.

When he could no longer afford going to watch West Ham in the late 50's my grandad used to walk from his house in Matthews Park Avenue to the Spotted Dog in order to watch them play.
